Curators of Classic Wine

Consistency, expertise and a commitment to always deliver beyond expectation is what we strive for with every bottle of Glen Carlou wine. Established in 1985, Glen Carlou is a relatively young estate which has built an enviable reputation as one of South Africa’s leading producers. Nestled in the heart of the Paarl Winelands, with vineyards at the foothills of the renowned Simonsberg Mountain, our grapes revel in their terroir. In 2017 Glen Carlou marks its 30th harvest of Chardonnay.

Interpreting curatorship

Producing truly great wine, consistently, takes a very special passion and attention to every facet of its slow, meticulous production. Even the word production doesn’t sit well with us – we prefer to call it Curatorship. It permeates everything we do – our respect for the environment and its unique terroir, the way we nurture our people and the painstaking care and judicious practices that go into producing every bottle of Glen Carlou.

The lay of the land

Situated in the heart of South Africa’s sought-after Paarl Valley, Glen Carlou enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate of warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. This, together with an exciting variety of slopes and the richness of our soils, creates unique wine-growing conditions – perfect for nurturing healthy, flavoursome grapes that reflect the inherent characteristics of our terroir.

Where low-yielding vines produce world-renowned wines

Only 50 hectares are under vine and our success is based on matching the ideal terroir with a specific variety – responding to the individual needs of each vineyard. To harness our farm’s vast wine-growing potential, advanced viticultural practices include among others, satellite weather stations and soil moisture probes. Yields are kept rigorously low, ensuring that the nature’s gifts are distilled in the flavorful grapes that we harvest.

Every Wine an Original

Each vintage and every variety presents its own excitement and its own challenge. In our custom-designed cellar, we combine time-honoured winemaking methods with state-of-the-art equipment to capture this magic in the wine. Meticulous care, from wine press to bottling, ensures that our cellar runs smoothly and professionally. The result is wines reflecting the intense fruit flavours distinctive to our region, whilst retaining the unique and individual Glen Carlou style.

One team, a mutual passion

A dynamic and highly motivated team contributes to our success. More than two decades’ experience has equipped us with intimate knowledge of the conditions prevailing Glen Carlou. It is in combining our spirit of free-thinking and enterprise with a mutual pursuit of excellence that we shape the distinctive Glen Carlou personality.
