Curators of Classic Wines

Producing truly great wine, consistently, takes a very special passion and attention to every facet of its slow, meticulous production. Even the word production doesn’t sit well with us – we prefer to call it Curatorship. It permeates everything we do – our respect for the environment and its unique terroir, the way we nurture our people and the painstaking care and judicious practices that go into producing every bottle of Glen Carlou.

Johnnie Calitz

Winemaker @ Glen Carlou

Johnnie Calitz is only the fourth winemaker since Glen Carlou was founded in 1985. It is our winemakers’ collective passion which has ensured the crafting of exceptional wines for almost three decades.

Johnnie sees nature as the most dominant force in every winemaking approach and he has made it his mission is to craft elegant wines with a real sense of uniqueness – balanced and expressive to the Simonsberg-Paarl terroir.

“Preparedness for me is also key, with attention to detail throughout the production process. My intent is to make the best and most interesting wines, keeping within the Glen Carlou tradition.”

Marius Cloete

Viticulturist @ Glen Carlou

At Glen Carlou we combine advanced technology with instinct to ensure the growth of premium grapes. Our success is based not only on matching the ideal terroir with a specific variety, but also on listening and responding to the individual needs of each vineyard.

For Marius, the chance to work hand in hand with nature is what he finds so inspiring.

“I am fortunate to work in our environment every day and I enjoy adapting to nature; every year is different and has its challenges.”

His greatest reward is seeing the results of our hard work, the journey of our vines and the fruit that it bears.
