Made from early ripened Chardonnay grapes at 21 to 22 degrees bailing, this Chardonnay gets its complexity from the continual lees stirring movement in the Nomblot egg tank. The combination of good grapes and minimal intervention shows in the wine.

 

Glen Carlou is synonymous with Chardonnay, having successfully made two wooded Chardonnay styles for almost 25 years – our Classic Chardonnay and our single vineyard Quartz Stone Chardonnay.

 

 

Tasting Notes

On the palate the wine has medium acidity with flavours of pineapple and quince; the lees give the wine a soft creamy finish. Often it is the creamy finish that creates a perception of sweetness, but the wine is nonetheless dry.

Winemaker’s Note

Made from early ripened Chardonnay grapes at 21 to 22 degrees bailing, Glen Carlou uses special water-bent barrels from a cooper in France. These sophisticated barrels impart a light touching of oak and allow the fruit to express itself, producing Glen Carlou’s Classic Chardonnay style. The fruit for this wine is sourced from ten different vineyard sites. All fruit for this wine is hand harvested over a three week period resulting in a number of batches with varying sugar and acidity levels. The result is a well balanced wine with elegance and restraint.
