For the second time, Glen Carlou has been included in the ultimate wine list with an inclusion of the 2014 Glen Carlou Chardonnay in the Sommelier Selection 2016 competition. The Sommeliers Selection is a South African wine competition judged solely by a panel of the country’s Top Sommeliers. The Glen Carlou Chardonnay was awarded a listing in the ‘Elegant & Classy Whites’. This well-structured and balanced chardonnay has great tropical fruit with hints of peach and poached pear on the nose. On the palate the wine delivers lifted varietal characters of melon, stone fruits and citrus which are enriched by the creamy...

The Curator’s Collection are a series of small-batch wines that allow Glen Carlou winemaker Arco Laarman to get his groove on and the Chenin Blanc 2015 from 30-year-old Swartland bushvines is discotastic. Fermented and matured for five months in second- and third-fill French oak barrels, the wine shows yellow peach, spice, a little earthiness plus some yeasty complexity. It’s rich and full with plenty of succulent fruit offset by tangy acidity. Price: R98 a bottle. #WinemagRating: 92/100. By Christian Eedes. Source: winemag.co.za  ...

What is your favourite Glen Carlou wine? The Gravel Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon as it is so soft and is a great pairing with venison. I also enjoy the Classic Chardonnay, which is so versatile, it is great with food and has a good balance of oak. If we were to choose a wine from another producer or wine region what would be your first choice? I always enjoy a Sauvignon Blanc from the Elim or Durbanville wine regions. What do you like to do in your downtime/days off? I really enjoy sustainable hunting of venison for our home consumption, and being in the outdoors. When I...

This acknowledgment is testament to the hardworking team not only front of house, but back of house as well. One of the most recent reviews is posted below. “Spectacular ” “Spectacular wines, excellent food and amazing staff! I would rate Glen Carlou as one of my favourite wine farms in Franschhoek. The wines are all amazing, our favourite being the Chardonnay, with rich butterscotch flavours. To eat we shared two starters; the squid and the terrine. Both...

This fresh and vibrant wine shows tropical fruits like guava and granadilla and grapefruit and even some flinty characters on the nose. The finish is fresh with a lovely balanced acid . We prefer to make our Sauvignon Blanc in a more reductive style to preserve the fruit purity and enhance the vibrant fruit profile. This wine is left on its lees for up to three months to give added weight and texture. Sourced from the truly maritime climate of Durbanville which lies some 10kms from the chilly Atlantic Ocean to the west, the vineyards are exposed to moisture-laden, seasonal coastal mists which,...
